Partner's Forum
UC Cooperative Extension Marin would like to give one last recognition to our longtime partner, Marin Organic, as they come to a close after 14 years. According to the Point Reyes Light, Marin Organic has “served its purpose, achieved its goals and completed its mission.”
“Marin Organic staff and Board members were partners and leaders for real and permanent change in Marin,” offered David Lewis, UCCE Marin Director. Explaining further he noted, “nearly 25 percent of Marin’s farms and ranches are certified organic, easily twice California and National rates. This is the legacy Marin Organic leaves the county.” We appreciate the partnership and collaboration over the years and the tremendous support Marin Organic has given to our agriculture community.
Fortunately, Marin Organic’s good work will continue on in new ways. Their Farm Field Studies program for school children to visit local farms and learn about agriculture will continue under the Agriculture Institute of Marin. “They’re going to be able to expand the program greatly,” Marin Organic’s Executive Director, Jeffery Westman said. UC Cooperative Extension in Marin and Sonoma will run Farming 101, which offers educational workshops to beginner farmers and supports a mentoring program between experienced and new farmers. We are happy to continue the Farming 101 Series set forth by Marin Organic and look forward to hosting our first workshop at the Petaluma Seed Bank in February 2016.
