Sustainable Practices
Marin is home to many pioneers of organic agriculture, including the first organic dairy west of the Mississippi (Straus) and the longest standing organic vegetable grower in California (Star Route Farms). It is also the home of the Marin Carbon Project which conducted early research into the carbon-sequestration potential of rangeland and pastures.
In many ways, Marin’s farmers and ranchers are the original environmental stewards, caring for soil, water and air so that they can, in turn, nourish their animals and crops. Oftentimes, attending to needs of the greater ecosystem provides a net benefit to the productivity and efficiency of your ag operation.
