Welcome to the Fall issue of Grown in Marin News. This fall marks a crucial time for investing in our County’s agricultural future. If you are a Marin County farmer or rancher, please take a moment to contribute to an important and timely research survey at ucanr.edu/2016survey which looks at changes in Marin agricultural operations over time and will help to inform UCCE’s future work.

Then read about how one North Bay ranching family is planning for the future in an article about up-and-coming rancher, Jamie Michelson, who has carved out her own business niche within her family’s ranching operation, in "Sonoma Mountain Beef Company: It's What's For Dinner!"

Read on to learn about the crucial importance of investing in the future of Marin County’s vibrant agriculture in Sam Dolcini’s article, “Succession Planning - An Investment That Pays Dividends into the Future” and be sure to mark your calendar for November 16 and 17, 2016 for an all-day program on Succession Planning for Farmers and Ranchers. This event is sure to be our most important educational offering of the year for local farmers and ranchers and will include National experts sharing strategies and actions to implement family farm transition and succession planning in order to secure the future of agricultural estates and businesses.

With local, seasonal, and organic food continuing to prove its staying power, the next generation of farmers and ranchers eagerly digging in to innovative agricultural business ventures, and much to be learned about the rapidly changing state of agriculture in Marin County, this is an exciting moment to be part of our local agricultural community. We hope you enjoy this issue and don’t miss out on the upcoming opportunities to get informed.

All the best,
