Notes From the Editor

Summer brings long days, warm weather, and an abundance of mouthwatering local produce, making it easy to imagine that this season will last forever. During this time of year, I can think of no better way to spend a lazy weekend than perusing my favorite farmers markets for good deals on some of my personal favorites—strawberries, melons, and tomatoes. That is because food, when purchased in season and directly from farmers, is not only delicious, but also very affordable.

To help ensure that all our readers are expert farmers market shoppers (and because info on farmers markets is the number one reason why people visit our website), we're focusing this summer 2014 issue on the topic. Read about the personalities and characteristics of some of our local farmers markets in Something for everyone at Marin County farmers markets. Learn how shoppers can use their CalFresh (food stamps) EBT cards at a number of Marin County farmers markets and even double the value of their CalFresh benefits with Market Match at a select few farmers markets this summer, while funds last, in Not just delicious, local food can be affordable, too!

Get informed about the Agricultural Institute of Marin’s Farm Audit program that helps ensure the quality and integrity of farms selling at the various farmers markets the organization manages. Then hear from one of our local producers at Indian Valley Organic Farm and Garden, as they build a thriving organic farm ecosystem to serve the community.

Finally, explore our up-to-date and complete listing of certified farmers markets operating in Marin County including their locations and seasonal schedules by clicking here.
