Upcoming UCCE Grown in Marin Workshop! If you're a farmer or rancher, don't miss the third installment of the workshop series on Succession Planning for Farms and Ranches on May 20 at the Tomales Town Hall. This workshop will provide a unique opportunity to hear from local lawyers, mediators, and estate planners on their experience helping farmers and ranchers plan for the future. Check out the upcoming workshop hosted by UCCE Sonoma on precision small-scale farming equipment on May 21 from 7:30 a.m. - 12 noon at the SRJC Shone Farm. Learn how various small-scale pieces of equipment can be pieced together to reduce hand labor, with examples of innovative equipment for establishing beds, precision planting, cultivation, and other forms of weed management. Attend Marin's upcoming Plan Bay Area workshop on May 28 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the San Rafael Civic Center, to participate in the growing effort to increase the affordability and sustainability of our towns and cities and protect the Bay Area's farms, forests, and watershed from sprawl.
Check out Marin Organic's workshop series: Farming 101, hosted on the second Tuesday of each month to teach practical skills to aspiring, novice and working farmers who wish to embrace organic methods. Subjects include soil health, tractor repair, small business practices, marketing, and irrigation, among many others. Some beginning farmers will also have the opportunity to work with an experienced farmer during a year-long mentorship.
