  • Congratulations to John Wick and Peggy Rathmann, leaders of the Marin Carbon Project, for their recognition by the North Bay Leadership Council as Leaders of the North Bay 2012 in the Environmental Stewardship category. Leaders of the North Bay are chosen as individuals who have been positive catalysts for change.

  • Congratulations to the members of the Petaluma Future Farmers of America for winning the national Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event in Indianapolis. The group will represent the United States in an international competition at the Royal Highland Livestock show in Ediburgh, Scotland in June 2013.   • Did you know that all of the 6 dairies in the Point Reyes National  Seashore are certified or in the process of becoming certified organicMarin has 29 commercial dairies; 25 are cow, 2 are goat and 1 is sheep and 1 is water buffalo.  68% of our 25 cow dairies are certified organic or in the process of becoming certified organic.

  • Don't miss the upcoming On-Farm Innovation Workshop at Gospel Flat Farm in Bolinas on December 13th.  Dedicated to farming innovations from the soil to product sales, the workshop will inspire creative problem solving, create time for discussion with fellow growers, and give you the opportunity to strategize for your own operation.  The afternoon will include a presentation by host Mickey Murch, farm tour, and discussion of innovative on-farm tool making, farm resource recovery, sales strategies, and more.  Register now!

  • The well-attended Economic Development Forum for the North Coast Region was held on November 9th 2012. If you weren’t able to make it be sure to see the USDA Rural Development’s latest report on Access to Local Capital and Sonoma State Professor of Economics Robert Eyler’s presentation on Value Chains for North Bay Agriculture.

  • Art on the Farm is back - this collaborative exhibit & fundraiser for Marin Organic Farm Field Studies will be in downtown San Rafael November 30th - January 17th.  Don't miss the opening reception on December 14th from 5-8 p.m. and 2nd reception on January 11th from 5 - 8 p.m.  Check out artonthefarm.org for more information.

  • For those of you who missed the photographic exhibit of Marin's Agrarian Roots through the lens of Marin's first Farm Advisor M.B. Boissevain's insightful photographs that premiered at the 2012 Marin County Fair, the exhibit will be back at the Civic Center from December 10th - April 26th.

  • Also, don’t miss out on the next historical tour of Marin’s Agrarian Roots, 1920’s-1940’s: As Reflected in the Photographs of M.B. Boissevain.  On Thursday February 21st, from 12 pm to 1 pm in room 330 at the Marin Civic Center, Marin County historian Dewey Livingston & David Lewis, Director U.C. Cooperative Extension in Marin, will speak about Marret Burridge Boissevain, Marin’s first U.C. Farm Advisor.  The presentation will be followed by a book signing.
