           TBA October week day evening

Tuesday May 28th, learn about agriculture in Marin County; the history, current status, issues, and the future. Hear from teachers who have completed the Agricultural Institute on how they have used the farm experiences and curricula in their classrooms. Learn about the food and farm based educational opportunities for your students and the curriculum available for use on the farm, in the garden, and in your classroom.

Then we will spend two days visiting ranches and farms and hearing the voices of those who work the land, as well as sample some of our Marin grown products and foods. First farm visit will be Thursday June 20th.  Second farm tour day will be in on a weekend day in September. The last evening class will be a wrap up of your course work and presentations by you on your work and plans to integrate the natural world, food, farms, health, and nutrition into your classrooms.

This is what teachers have said about the Institute in years past.

“I can say without reservation that the Ag Institute was one of the most original, and beneficial staff development opportunities I've received in my 13 year teaching career.”

“ This is very important work, and I felt like a child myself, magical SIGN UP !”

“ It will enrich your curriculum, you will feel a connection to the earth, and you will be giving the children a most necessary element in their education – Thinking about he planet, and instilling concern about the future in real tangible ways. When you educate through the kids bellies, allow them to get dirty, and meet an animal nose to nose , you got them!!”

"It has been informative and inspirational getting reconnected to the land!"

“ It is the most self-affirming in service I ‘ve ever done, It takes you back to what is centrally important for all of us. The earth and healthy lifestyles are what we all need to strive for and sustainable practices in our own neighborhoods.”

"Excellent presenters and panel discussions!"

Farm Field Studies trips and Farmers Market tours as well as Slide Ranch visits will be available to teachers who complete the Marin Agricultural Institute for Teachers course.
